New Temple, New Walls, & a reNewed Covenant

By dlmorris

My family recently read the Bible through in chronological order in a year for our family devotion time using a YouVersion plan. It’s truly eye opening to read the prophets as they appear in history rather than when they come in the Bible. Their visions and warnings really add to The Story and help you follow the story line more closely.

Something happened though when we got to the end of the Old Testament…. I wanted to cry, not because we were through with the Old Testament but because it seemed so hopeless. God had judged the people, sent them into exile, and brought them back JUST LIKE HE PROMISED. They had a new temple, a new wall, and they had renewed the Covenant, yet they still sinned and were right back where they started before the Exile. It seemed like He told them the same thing over and over, and they just couldn’t get it.

I could see why they longed for a Messiah. I just wanted Jesus. I wanted Him to come fix everything that mankind had messed up.

Although Jesus has come, we still live in a messed up world. God has told us the same thing over and over, and we just can’t seem to get it right either. What mercy and grace to know He is coming back JUST LIKE HE PROMISED.

I hope you are longing for the Messiah – in the Story and in your life!

Until next week, dig deeper into the life of the returned exiles @ The Bible From A to Z – Set N – New Temple, New Wall, & a reNewed Covenant to discover how we should live while we are waiting for the Messiah just as the Jew waited over 2000 years ago.
